West Ham Set to Extend Lifeline to Manchester United Defender Harry Maguire

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire is determined to stay at the club and compete for his place under manager Erik ten Hag, despite interest from West Ham. The Hammers are considering a move for Maguire following Declan Rice’s departure to Arsenal for £105 million. However, West Ham would require Maguire to take a significant pay cut to fit into their wage structure.

United, who had discussed potential player exchanges with West Ham earlier in the transfer window, including Maguire’s name, are open to offers for up to 13 players in their quest to raise funds for new signings. Nevertheless, the club views Maguire as an important part of the squad and has no intention of pushing the England international out of Old Trafford. United is giving all players the opportunity to fight for their positions.

Maguire, who joined United from Leicester in 2019 for a record-breaking fee of £80 million, made just eight Premier League starts last season and fell down the pecking order under Erik ten Hag. However, he remains a regular for the England national team. Despite speculation surrounding Maguire’s captaincy, Ten Hag clarified that the decision lies with him and not the dressing room.

While Maguire’s future with United is uncertain, he was present during the team’s training session and arrived in his Range Rover. The club has already begun their pre-season preparations, securing a 2-0 victory against Leeds in their opening game in Norway. They will face Lyon next before heading to the United States for matches against Arsenal, Wrexham, Real Madrid, and Borussia Dortmund.

In transfer news, negotiations for the signing of goalkeeper Andre Onana are in the final stages, with an expected fee of approximately £43 million. United is also in talks with Urawa Reds over a potential £5 million deal for 20-year-old Japanese goalkeeper Zion Suzuki.
