West Ham Engage in Discussions with Man United for Scott McTominay, Requiring a Considerable Bid to Lure the Midfielder from Old Trafford

West Ham in Talks with Man United over Potential Scott McTominay Transfer

  • Scott McTominay has only started 10 Premier League games under Erik ten Hag.
  • West Ham is looking for midfield reinforcements after the departure of Declan Rice.
  • The club has officially approached Man United about signing McTominay.

West Ham has reportedly initiated talks with Manchester United regarding the potential transfer of Scott McTominay.

Following the departure of captain Declan Rice to Arsenal earlier this month, West Ham is eager to strengthen its midfield.

According to Sky Sports, West Ham has officially approached United to inquire about McTominay’s price.

The reports suggest that McTominay is considered a valuable member of the squad, and it would take a substantial offer for United to consider selling him.

There is said to be a difference between United’s valuation and West Ham’s willingness to pay.

The Scotland international has struggled to secure a regular spot in the starting lineup under Erik ten Hag, with the arrival of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen last season adding competition in midfield.

Considering the ongoing changes at Old Trafford and McTominay’s desire for more playing time, this summer could be the right moment for him to seek a transfer.

Due to Financial Fair Play restrictions, West Ham might not be able to sign a direct replacement for McTominay and could opt to retain the player for another year.

However, the temptation of much-needed income may be hard to resist if Ten Hag identifies another position he wishes to reinforce.

McTominay’s contract at Old Trafford runs until the summer of 2025, with the option to extend for another year, allowing United to take their time with any potential sale.

Despite his limited appearances in the first team, it remains uncertain whether Ten Hag is willing to let the player leave this summer.

Although McTominay made 39 appearances in all competitions as midfield cover, only 16 of those were starts, with just 10 in the Premier League.

However, McTominay has expressed his admiration for Ten Hag’s coaching style, praising his emphasis on innovative thinking and open-mindedness.

He stated, “Obviously, the transition in terms of his style is very, very different to some other coaches. But, as I say, that’s football. He’s always having you thinking, and having you think about new ideas and stuff like that.
