Wendy McMahon named new chief by CBS News

Wendy McMahon has been appointed as the CEO and president of CBS News. This promotion expands McMahon’s previous role as co-president, granting her sole oversight over CBS News and its stations. Previously, McMahon shared responsibilities with Neeraj Khemlani, who recently announced his departure.

As co-president since 2021, McMahon and Khemlani were jointly responsible for managing CBS News and popular shows like “60 Minutes” and “Face the Nation.” Khemlani revealed that he is leaving his current position to pursue a new deal with CBS, where he will focus on developing content such as documentaries, scripted series, and books for Simon & Schuster.

Last week, CBS News parent company Paramount announced the sale of book publisher Simon & Schuster to private equity firm KKR. With her new role, McMahon will oversee all of CBS News’ broadcast and streaming operations, including its 27 local TV stations, 14 local streaming channels, and syndication programming. She will also be responsible for content licensing to TV stations and the division’s national ad sales business.

Additionally, McMahon will have oversight of first-run entertainment series such as “Jeopardy!” and “Wheel of Fortune,” as well as shows like “Entertainment Tonight” and “The Drew Barrymore Show.” CBS Radio and CBS Newspath will also fall under her purview. Furthermore, as part of her expanded responsibilities, McMahon will serve as the president of CBS Media Ventures, a position previously held by Steven LoCascio, who announced his retirement.

Overall, Wendy McMahon’s appointment as CEO and president of CBS News showcases the network’s commitment to strong leadership and strategic growth in the rapidly evolving media landscape.
