A sparring match between young men resulted in one man being wounded and bullets being dispersed throughout a Harrison Township neighborhood on Saturday afternoon, according to Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office investigators who spoke with News Center 7′s Mike Campbell. Authorities are urging the community to speak out to prevent further incidents of violence like this.
The gunfire erupted in broad daylight on the 3000 block of Otis Drive, affecting numerous residents. At least two 911 callers reported that their homes had been struck by bullets.
According to one caller, “Some people were shooting and a bullet came through my house.” Another stated, “Looks like a bullet hit my refrigerator and there’s a bullet casing on my floor.”
News Center 7 obtained access to nearly five 911 calls related to the incident. When deputies arrived at the scene, they found a 19-year-old man who had been shot in the shoulder. Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Major Jeremy Roy emphasized that if the bullet had struck just three inches to the left, it would have been fatal.
Despite receiving numerous reports of the gunfire, law enforcement is struggling to identify the individuals responsible for the shooting. Roy stated, “We know there were witnesses there when it took place, those witnesses are not coming forward or being cooperative.”
Tony Mitchell, a resident of the area, expressed concerns for the young people involved in the incident and stressed the importance of taking responsibility. He said, “You can’t do four years in school, but you’ll do 20 years in prison, it just don’t make no sense.”
