In the realm of extravagant spending, shelling out $15,000 for your child’s summer camp might seem crazy. But for some elite parents, that’s just the tip of the iceberg. They’re willing to spend a whopping $30,000 on a round trip flight just to attend parents’ day at these posh camps.
According to FlightRadar24, a flight-tracking website, there were approximately 35 day-long round trips made between private airports in the Hamptons and Westchester to landing strips in Maine near some of the most exclusive summer camps in the Northeast.
Chartering a round trip flight of this nature costs anywhere from $30,000 to $45,000, depending on the aircraft. This means that a small group of privileged New York parents collectively spent between $1 million and $1.5 million just to visit their children for a single day.
And that’s not even counting the parents who flew in from other upscale locations like Boston or Miami, or those whose children attended camps in other popular summer destinations.
