The Orange County Sheriff’s Department has unveiled a riveting video showcasing a deputy-involved shooting in Lake Forest, which took place a few weeks ago. The incident occurred after a man viciously stabbed two of his sisters, tragically resulting in one fatality.
Responding promptly to multiple reports of a stabbing at an apartment complex on Osterman Road in the 2100 block, deputies were at the scene. The released video features two recorded calls to dispatch – one from a female neighbor who heard one of the sisters desperately pleading for help, and another from an Amazon delivery driver who witnessed the assailant brutally attacking the woman and promptly provided a detailed description to the authorities.
During the 911 call, the neighbor informed dispatch that she had witnessed the woman being relentlessly chased by the male suspect until she finally collapsed on the stairway in front of her apartment. The woman eventually disappeared from her neighbor’s line of sight.
The male delivery driver, in his call to dispatch, vividly described the alarming incident he had witnessed. He reported seeing the blood-soaked suspect fleeing behind a building in the apartment complex after ruthlessly stabbing the woman. The driver accurately described the assailant as a darker-skinned individual wearing a blood-soaked white shirt and shorts.
Dispatch promptly relayed to the responding deputies and county fire personnel that the woman was discovered in the parking lot, having sustained multiple stab wounds to her neck and abdomen.
Upon reaching the scene, deputies wasted no time in providing urgent medical attention to the victim. Simultaneously, additional deputies took swift action to evacuate nearby apartments, positioning themselves outside the suspect’s residence, as detailed by Sgt. Mike Woodroof in the video.
Shortly thereafter, the victim’s mother arrived and informed the deputies that her other daughter remained trapped inside the suspect’s apartment. She supplied the deputies with a key to gain entry. Body camera footage reveals the presence of four deputies and a K-9 unit stationed outside the apartment in question.
“We’re forcing entry inside the (residence), there’s another subject inside, we have K-9, less lethal and assault rifle,” relayed one of the deputies to dispatch.
The deputies made their presence known and proceeded to open the apartment door. Upon doing so, the video footage captured the suspect standing at the end of a hallway, clutching a knife in his right hand. Multiple deputies can be heard desperately shouting, “Drop the knife, drop it,” seconds before one of them fires shots in the suspect’s direction.
Immediately after, one of the deputies radioed dispatch to inform them that shots had been fired. In a tender moment, another deputy can be heard comforting the K-9 before instructing his partner to secure the suspect. The authorities then entered the apartment, shouting, “Hands, let me see your hands,” before the bodycam footage grinds to a sudden halt.
Later on, the deputies discovered another female victim in her twenties, suffering from multiple stab wounds, inside a bathroom within the apartment premises. Tragically, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect was swiftly apprehended and restrained by deputies, who administered life-saving measures with the assistance of fire personnel. Subsequently, he was transported to the hospital before being transferred to the Orange County Jail and is now facing charges of murder and attempted murder, as confirmed by Sgt. Woodroof.
