Alexis Mac Allister, and his performance at Anfield, continues to draw attention as a temporary stand-in until another midfielder is brought in. Rumors have been circulating that Fluminense midfielder Andre could be heading to Merseyside; however, Liverpool denies these reports. Klopp has repeatedly denied the possibility of signing a new defensive midfielder. With all eyes on Wataru Endo, Klopp’s last summer signing, Liverpool is waiting to see if he can step up to fill the gap in their midfield. Endo has performed well in Europa League and Carabao Cup fixtures, but his presence in the Premier League is yet to be fully felt. However, with Mac Allister’s suspension, Endo is set to get his second Premier League start against Brentford.
Historically, Klopp believes it can take up to six months for new signings to fully comprehend Liverpool’s tactical requirements. Just as Fabinho had a slow start after joining Liverpool in 2018, Endo has also had a limited game time following his arrival. Klopp is confident that Endo will start Premier League games in the future. With Endo getting more game time, it remains to be seen if Klopp’s faith in him is justified. Liverpool is not currently planning on signing another midfielder, hoping that Endo can morph into a permanent solution in their problematic position, similar to how Fabinho did after his hard start.
