Milliam also observed a man brandishing a knife at her manager after he tried to prevent the individual from stealing. Additionally, she encountered a customer who verbally abused her for asking them to dispose of their drink near a clothing display. Milliam even witnessed customers using the fitting room as a restroom.
These accounts align with the results of a recent survey conducted by the National Retail Federation, which revealed that 77.6% of retail workers are more concerned about “guest-on-associate” violence compared to five years ago. Additionally, 70.7% expressed heightened concerns about organized retail theft, while 57.9% mentioned worries related to mass violence and active assailants.
