Wallabies Prop Schoupp Seeks A-Grade Performance: Overcoming Student Dissatisfaction after Big-Time Callup

Brother of NRL Star Prepares for World Cup Showdown with Fiji

Schoolteacher-turned-World Cup prop, Blake Schoupp, is getting ready to face Fiji in a crucial pool clash in Saint-Etienne. This opportunity comes after his school students expressed their underwhelm at his performance. Schoupp is grateful that Wallabies coach Eddie Jones saw potential in him, despite his students’ lack of enthusiasm.

The 24-year-old health and physical education graduate took up his first teaching position at a Sydney high school called Edgeware, which specializes in troubled kids. Many of these students had been expelled from other schools or had come from youth detention centers. Despite his students’ lukewarm response, Schoupp is now preparing for his third Test with the Wallabies as he continues his rapid rise in the rugby world.

Getting a call-up to play at the Rugby World Cup is a dream come true for Schoupp, who used to play for the Woonona Shamrocks with his dad as coach. His brother, Aaron, who plays for the Gold Coast Titans in the NRL, couldn’t make it to France for the tournament as he is awaiting the birth of his first child. Despite playing different codes, Blake and Aaron maintain a close relationship.

Schoupp’s World Cup campaign is not just about personal achievements, but also about making his parents proud. He wants to give them moments like these where they can see his success. Although he hasn’t ruled out returning to teaching in the future, Schoupp appreciates the grounding and perspective he gained from working with troubled students.
