Wage, Meal, and Rest Break Violations: Shocking Claims by Former Nobu Employee

An ex-Nobu employee has filed a lawsuit alleging unpaid work and violations of labor laws at the La Cienega Boulevard location. According to the complaint brought under the Private Attorneys General Act, Angel Briones and other workers were forced to work off-the-clock, including during meal and rest breaks. The lawsuit seeks civil penalties for Labor Code violations.

A representative from Nobu has not yet responded to the allegations.

Another lawsuit, filed by a plaintiff identified as Jane Doe, accuses the Nobu Malibu restaurant of repeated sexual misconduct against hostesses by supervisors.

Briones’ lawsuit aims to recover civil penalties and attorneys’ fees. While the specific job held by Briones is not mentioned, it is stated that they worked at the Los Angeles Nobu location from 2015 to July 2022.

According to the lawsuit, Nobu failed to compensate employees for all hours worked, including time spent on COVID-19 testing and changing uniforms. Additionally, the suit alleges that employees were not paid for overtime and were made to work through meal breaks.

The suit also claims that Nobu violated the state Labor Code by not providing accurate wage statements or reimbursing employees for business expenses, such as using their cell phones for work. It further alleges that the company did not promptly pay owed wages to staff who were terminated or resigned. Nobu restaurants, founded by chef Nobu Matsuhisa, actor Robert De Niro, and producer Meir Teper, are well-known for being frequented by celebrities.
