For those who already own a Move speaker, the Move 2 is a compatible companion, although not without its limitations. The original Move can be charged on a Move 2 charging base, and vice versa. But what’s even more exciting is that Sonos’s replacement battery kit for the Move 2 is backward compatible with the original Move. For just $79, you can get a larger battery pack (3,100 mAh compared to 2,500 mAh), which provides approximately 13.5 hours of playback with the first-generation hardware.
However, it’s important to note that you cannot wirelessly link a Move 2 with an original Move to create a stereo pair. Sonos’ stereo configuration only supports identical hardware. You also cannot use two Move 2 speakers as rear surround channels with a Sonos soundbar like the Arc or Beam.

The Move 2 excels in handling WiFi networks compared to its predecessor. The WiFi radio can remain active even during Bluetooth playback, eliminating the need to manually switch back to your Sonos network. As long as you are within WiFi range, the Move 2 will show up on the Sonos app and allow you to override whatever is playing over Bluetooth.
Furthermore, the WiFi range itself has seen significant improvement. Sonos has upgraded the WiFi with 802.11ax support, surpassing the 802.11n capabilities of the original Move. I personally experienced no connectivity issues with the Move 2 in outdoor locations where the Sonos app failed to detect the original Move. Bluetooth has also received an upgrade, with the Move 2 now supporting v5.0 compared to the v4.1 on the original Move.
