Upgrade Your 5 Series with BMW’s Exciting M Performance Packages

The highly-anticipated arrival of the new BMW 5 Series later this year will mark the introduction of an electric model to the iconic sedan line. BMW has recently unveiled its plans to release a range of M Performance parts for the upcoming 5 Series, catering to both traditional gasoline-powered and electric models.

Set to debut in October 2024, the 5 Series and its electric variant, the i5 sedan, will offer enthusiasts two exciting M performance packages: the Sports Package and the Sports Package Pro. These options will feature exquisite carbon fiber bodywork, including a front lip, decklid spoiler, and a three-piece rear diffuser. Additionally, the packages will also include carbon side skirts and black accent stripes adorned with M Performance lettering.

Further customization options are available with lightweight alloy wheels in either 19- or 21-inch sizes. If you’re looking for a bolder style, the largest wheels can be finished in black or grey. To enhance performance, an optional M Performance brake system is offered, boasting red calipers, six-piston units in the front, and single pistons at the rear. Designed with vented features, these brakes effectively prevent fade and manage brake temperatures more efficiently during intense driving sessions.

Stepping into the interior, you’ll notice carbon door sill plates and luxurious M Performance velour floor mats with synthetic leather trim. And if you’re still craving more “M” branding, the key itself comes encased in a Nappa leather and carbon fiber-effect material M Performance case.

The new 5 Series will be available with various powertrain options, including a mild-hybrid gas powertrain, an electric powertrain, and eventually a plug-in hybrid. European markets will even have the choice of a diesel variant. Among the electric offerings, the base i5 eDrive 40 boasts an impressive 340 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque. For those seeking exhilarating performance, the performance-oriented i5 M60 xDrive delivers an astonishing 601 horsepower and 605 pound-feet of torque, accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.8 seconds.

While BMW has yet to disclose details about the North American M-tuned gas 5 Series models, it’s reasonable to anticipate the release of at least an M5 and potentially an “M-ish” model, such as the M550i, in the near future.
