Unveiling the Untold History of the ‘Wild Man’: Remarkable Discovery in €875k Tramore Seaside Home

An accidental discovery by owner Ultan Brady of Albion House in Tramore, Co Waterford, uncovered the home’s fascinating history with the Grand National. While sanding down a window sill, Brady noticed the outline of hinges under the paint. After further scraping, he lifted a lid to reveal a hidden compartment filled with old lease documents from the 1890s and early 1900s. Research led Brady to learn about the Widger family, who had lived in Albion House. Tom Widger, the signer of the lease documents, was a successful horse breeder and supplier to the British army. Brady also discovered that Tom’s son, Joe, ran away from school to ride in horse races, eventually winning the Grand National in 1895. Albion House, described as an important architectural heritage in Tramore, is now for sale with an asking price of €875,000.
