Unveiling the Truth: Is this AI Video Truly Kendall Jenner? Countless Fooled by Meta Bot as Specialists Confirm Authenticity of Famous Star

A viral video featuring what fans believe is an AI-generated clone of Kendall Jenner is causing confusion and drawing comparisons to the show ‘Black Mirror’. The video was posted on the Instagram account of an AI bot named ‘Billie’, created by Meta. It sparked debate about whether the person in the video is an AI model or the real Kendall Jenner. With nearly 350,000 likes and 7,000 comments, viewers were amazed and creeped out by the supposed technology at play. However, AI expert Dr Mike Cook from Kings College London stated that there were no signs of artificial generation in the video, highlighting the fragile nature of the online world.

Celebrities like Kendall Jenner and Charli D’Amelio now have AI alter-egos on social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook. Billie, an AI version of Kendall Jenner, was created through collaboration between Meta and the celebrity herself. The AI social media accounts allow fans to interact with their favorite celebrities’ AI counterparts using technology similar to ChatGPT. Meta clarified that the celebrities partnered with them to “play and embody” their AI characters, leading to widespread belief that the photos and videos posted by ‘Billie’ and other clones were AI generated. However, this is not the case.

In a comment on the viral ‘Billie’ video, the Meta bot confirmed that Kendall Jenner played the AI character in some of the photos and videos. The confusion surrounding this situation reveals the fragility of the online world, where trust and belief become uncertain. Meta has created a total of 14 AI social profiles based on celebrities, but it should be noted that these familiar faces are representing the characters, not themselves.

According to AI expert Dr Mike Cook, there are ways to determine if something is AI generated or not. For instance, AI models often struggle with shadows and light, which may not match where the light is shining from or result in contradictory shadow directions. AI also struggles with text, making it easier to identify writing on clothing or signs in the background. Fine details, particularly those with repeating or overlapping shapes, can confuse AI models as well.

While this technology has fun applications, it poses risks when it comes to sharing personal information with the bots. Encouraging users to develop personal relationships with AI systems can be dangerous, as seen with the man who broke into Windsor Castle. In vulnerable situations, human care and love are needed, and robo-friends should not be the first solution sought after. Overall, AI has potential benefits beyond pretending to be human, and Meta’s pursuits in this area may be playing a dangerous game.
