Unveiling the Royal Family’s Historic Journeys: Israel and the Palestinian Territories

  • Royal family members have recently visited Israel and the Palestinian territories.
  • In 2018, Prince William made the first official royal visit to Israel and the West Bank.
  • Princess Alice of Battenberg, Prince Philip’s mother, is buried in Jerusalem.

King Charles III, Prince William, and Kate Middleton released statements expressing support for Israel and condemning the Hamas terrorist attacks that resulted in the deaths of 1,300 people and injuries to thousands more.

“The Prince and Princess of Wales are deeply saddened by the devastating events that have unfolded in recent days. The acts of terrorism perpetrated by Hamas against Israel are horrifying, and they strongly condemn them,” stated William and Kate on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The statement continued: “As Israel exercises its right to self-defense, both Israelis and Palestinians will continue to face grief, fear, and anger in the days to come. Their Royal Highnesses hold all the victims, their families, and their friends in their thoughts and prayers. The people The Prince of Wales met in 2018 overwhelmingly shared a common hope for a better future. Despite the immense suffering, The Prince and Princess continue to share that hope unreservedly.”

A spokesperson for Buckingham Palace also issued a statement on behalf of King Charles to People magazine, saying: “His Majesty is extremely concerned about this situation and has requested to be constantly updated. He extends his thoughts and prayers to all those who are suffering, especially those who have lost loved ones and those actively involved at this moment. His Majesty is appalled by and condemns the barbaric acts of terrorism in Israel.”

Charles also met with the UK’s Chief Rabbi, Sir Ephraim Mirvis, at Buckingham Palace on Thursday.

While various members of the royal family have individually visited Israel over the years, it was Prince William’s official visit in 2018 that marked the first royal family visit to the country, according to The Times of Israel.

Let’s take a look at the past visits of the royal family to Israel and the West Bank.
