If you’re wondering about the relationship between Nintendo and Microsoft following recent Xbox email leaks, you’ll be pleased to know that there is no bad blood.

In an exclusive interview with Inverse, Doug Bowser, the president of Nintendo of America, asserts that Nintendo has a strong and positive partnership with Microsoft and its gaming division, Xbox. He cites examples of their collaboration throughout the Switch generation, such as the inclusion of Minecraft and Banjo Kazooie in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

“We have a great relationship with Microsoft. We consider them to be partners in many, many ways.”

Bowser further expresses Nintendo’s anticipation for the continuation of this partnership in the future.

Regarding industry acquisitions and consolidations, Bowser acknowledges that it has been a constant in the video game industry over the past 16 years. However, he highlights the presence of new and talented indie studios that emerge each year, balancing out the effects of consolidation.

“So as consolidation happens, on an equal basis, we’re seeing these new studios, which really just speaks to the dynamic nature of the industry overall. In the end, that bodes well for the player.”

One of the outcomes of the partnership between Nintendo and Microsoft in 2023 includes the release of games like Minecraft Legends and the iconic FPS GoldenEye 007 from Rare on the Switch Online service. Additionally, Xbox has reaffirmed that Nintendo players will be integrated into the Call of Duty community following the completion of the Activision Blizzard acquisition.
