Unveiling the Next-Gen MG3 Hatch: Sophisticated Design and Stunning New Taillights Spotted!

MG generated significant buzz this summer with the introduction of the Cyberster electric vehicle. The compact coupe is a welcome addition to the expanding range of electric cars. However, the MG brand doesn’t just offer the Cyberster. They also have other models in their lineup, such as the small and affordable MG3. New spy photos have surfaced showing that the automaker is currently testing the next-generation version of the MG3.

The MG3 is quite old, with the second generation originally debuting back in 2011. Although the vehicle has undergone two facelifts since then, with the most recent one occurring in 2018, these updates can only do so much to keep a car feeling fresh. The arrival of the next-generation model will undoubtedly bring about a new exterior look, at the very least.

Despite MG’s attempts to conceal the car’s design with a camouflage wrap, some details can still be discerned from the photos. The new MG3 maintains the general aesthetic of the current model at the front, featuring a prominent grille and a sleek lower opening flanked by sportier intakes. This refreshed styling is complemented by slimmer headlights, and the overall design bears a resemblance to the MG5’s appearance.

However, there are more significant changes at the rear of the vehicle, where the MG3 adopts a more conventional rear-end design. It boasts a restyled hatch, revamped taillights, and a sporty rear bumper. Sharp design lines running along the sides further highlight the doors and rear fenders, giving the hatch a more dynamic look.

Unfortunately, the photos do not provide a glimpse of the car’s cabin. However, the dashboard does appear busier compared to the current model. The new MG3 is expected to feature a larger infotainment screen with updated software. The automaker may also include a digital instrument cluster, but it’s important to note that affordability is a key attribute of this vehicle, so it might not come with all the bells and whistles.

As for the powertrain details of the new MG3, they remain a mystery for now. Unlike the Cyberster, which is fully electric, the MG3 is expected to stick with gasoline power, possibly with some electrical assistance in the form of a hybrid or mild-hybrid version. Other powertrain options may vary depending on the region. MG will make the MG3 available in both European and Asian markets, offering it with both manual and automatic transmissions.

While it’s unclear exactly when MG will officially unveil the new model, it’s possible that it could happen next year, given that the hatch appears production-ready in these latest spy photos. However, regardless of when it debuts, the MG3 will not be available in the US market.
