Authorities in New Jersey are working diligently to identify the body of an unidentified man found along the shoreline. The discovery was made near American Legion Drive along Keyport Harbor, which connects to Raritan Bay. The Keyport Police Department released a statement on Facebook on October 29th, indicating that the body was recovered by law enforcement officials.
An autopsy is underway to confirm the man’s identity. However, as of the latest update on October 29th, his identity remains unknown. The Keyport Police Department has not yet responded to inquiries from McClatchy News.
The department expressed condolences to the family and requested the public’s cooperation and patience during the investigation. They declared, “We appreciate your cooperation in this matter and ask for your patience as we work to confirm the details surrounding this incident.”
Several days prior to this discovery, the Keyport police responded to a report of a missing kayaker who had gone fishing. They received the report at around 6 p.m. on October 23rd. The man’s kayak was found near Walnut Street, approximately one mile east of the location where the unidentified body was discovered. According to the authorities, the kayak contained the man’s personal belongings.
Keyport is situated about 40 miles south of New York City.
