Unveiling the Hidden Ways Drivers Misuse Electric Cars: Expert Insights

As more motorists switch from petrol cars to electric models, an automotive expert shares a valuable tip to help drivers avoid expensive repair bills.

Bladed Angel, known for his YouTube channel where he provides driving tips and talks about the latest car models, highlights in his recent video that many people mistakenly believe that electric vehicles never require maintenance.

He clarifies, “While it’s true that electric vehicles generally have lower maintenance needs compared to internal combustion engines, it doesn’t mean they are maintenance-free. In fact, nothing in this world is completely maintenance-free.”

Bladed Angel adds, “Sure, owners might get away with neglecting maintenance tasks for a few years, but when they sell the vehicle, the new owner will inherit all the issues they’ve neglected.”

While electric vehicles are often perceived as low-maintenance due to their simpler powertrain, which has fewer components than a traditional engine, they still require some attention.

Unlike petrol cars, electric vehicles don’t use oil, which reduces motoring costs. However, they still need coolant regularly checked and added to prevent overheating of the lithium-ion batteries used.

In the video, Bladed Angel emphasizes the importance of regularly inspecting all vehicle components to avoid breakdowns and accidents.

He says, “Consumer mentality wanting cars to be as effortless as appliances has unfortunately led many people to neglect their electric cars, sometimes due to misunderstandings. Just because the motor isn’t internal combustion doesn’t mean the rest of the car isn’t a car anymore. You still have to maintain the tires, check the tire pressures, and perform brake maintenance.”

Aside from the powertrain, electric vehicles still require brake pad replacements to ensure optimal stopping distances. Other items like tires, wiper blades, and brake fluid can also wear out over time and should be checked weekly or before long journeys.

According to experts, regular vehicle maintenance and checks can make servicing an electric car more cost-effective compared to a petrol car.
