The Disgusting Hypocrisy of Elite Schools Defending Campus Celebrations of Hamas’ Terror Attack

Harvard president Claudine Gay recently declared, “Our university embraces a commitment to free expression,” in support of the pro-Hamas protests on the campus. However, this statement is nothing but disingenuous claptrap. Ironically, Harvard has been named America’s worst school for free speech just five weeks ago, according to the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression’s annual college free speech rankings. In fact, Harvard received a 0.00-point free speech ranking on a 100-point scale, a full 11 points behind the next-worst school.

Furthermore, it is appalling to see that Harvard allowed its students to sign a letter blaming Israel for the evil Hamas terror attacks, which resulted in the deaths of innocent Israelis. Instead of punishing these students, Harvard’s president defended their right to free speech, claiming that the university is a bastion of free expression. However, this claim is contradicted by Harvard’s abysmal record in upholding free speech.

This issue is not limited to Harvard alone. Numerous other elite schools, such as the University of Michigan, Cornell, and the University of Pennsylvania, have also shown moral cowardice in the face of Hamas attacks and have embraced cancel culture. These schools now face backlash in the form of financial consequences, with donors like Jon Huntsman threatening to withhold donations due to their failure to condemn Hamas.

This double standard is sickening. When it comes to issues like the killing of George Floyd or the Russian invasion of Ukraine, these universities swiftly condemned the actions and stood in solidarity. However, when it comes to Israel’s darkest day and acts of terror comparable to the Nazis, these same institutions either remained silent or tolerated pro-Hamas rhetoric from their students.

It is disheartening to witness the hypocrisy of these elite schools and the disregard for Jewish lives. They have proudly denied free speech and canceled anyone who disagrees with their hard-left ideology, yet they conveniently remain silent when it comes to the suffering of Israelis at the hands of Hamas. This reveals a disturbing underlying bias that suggests Jewish lives matter less to these institutions.

In conclusion, the defense of Hamas celebrations by elite schools is a disgusting display of hypocrisy. These institutions claim to uphold free expression while suppressing dissenting views and avoiding condemnation of acts of terror against Israel. It is time for these schools to confront their moral cowardice and truly embrace the values they claim to champion.
