Unveiling the Astonishing High-Speed Super Sub at Monaco: Experience Unmatched Agility!

U-Boat Works has recently unveiled the fastest private submersible ever built, known as the Super Sub. This three-person bubble-cabin submersible resembles an underwater supercar and has the ability to cruise at high speeds, comparable to bottlenose dolphins.

The concept of the Super Sub was first introduced in 2021 and underwent a redesign in 2022 to enhance its speed. Dutch company U-Boat Worx has now successfully constructed the submersible and showcased it at the Monaco Yacht Show. The actual appearance of the sub is just as impressive as it seemed in the initial renders, resembling the robotic octopus from the movie “The Matrix.”

The Super Sub’s sleek and elongated body, measuring 6.5 meters (21.3 feet), is designed for optimal hydrodynamics and resembles a sci-fi vehicle. With a remarkable 100 kW of electric thrust, the submersible is equipped with hydrofoils attached to its thrusters. These hydrofoils enable sharp, banked turns and rapid ascent and descent at angles of up to 45 degrees. It’s safe to say that the Super Sub appears to be more agile compared to conventional yacht garage submersibles.

Although the Super Sub is not designed for extreme depths, it can reach a maximum depth of 300 meters (1,000 feet), which is more than sufficient for most individuals in 2023. The onboard battery provides approximately eight hours of endurance, and the submersible meets DNV regulations with a life support system, oxygen supply, CO2 scrubbing, interior lighting, and communication capabilities lasting for at least 96 hours.

Safety features of the Super Sub include an automatic maximum depth protection system, preventing the submersible from surpassing its rated depth, and a dead man’s switch that resurfaces the sub automatically if the pilot fails to interact with the controls every 10 minutes. According to Roy Heijdra, Marketing Manager at U-Boat Worx, the Super Sub’s speed of 10 knots surpasses that of bottlenose dolphins by 3-4 knots and is 7 knots faster than the average submersible.

The Super Sub offers an exciting experience, allowing owners to glide along sea turtles, cruise alongside sharks, dive and maneuver with dolphins, or navigate swiftly through undercurrents with barracudas. With a top speed of 10 knots, equivalent to 11.5 mph or 18.5 km/h, pilots can enjoy a panoramic view through the crystal-clear spherical cabin. However, it’s important to note that if dolphins decide to accelerate, they can reach speeds almost double that of the Super Sub.

Currently, only one Super Sub has been built, set for delivery at the end of the year. U-Boat Worx plans to construct more next year for those willing to invest in this remarkable submersible, starting at €5.2 million (US$5.44 million). Watch the official release video below.
