Unveiling Smart’s Affordable Electric SUV with Enhanced Features and Amazing Value

Smart, the electric mobility company, has introduced a new entry-level option for its compact #1 crossover model. This move aims to reduce the base price of the vehicle lineup by incorporating a smaller LPO battery.

In 2019, parent company Mercedes-Benz joined forces with Geely Automobile to develop next-gen all-electric Smart cars. These cars are known for their progressive design, premium equipment, and advanced technology. The Concept #1, which showcased the future of e-mobility, was unveiled at IAA Mobility in Munich a couple of years later. Following that, the production launch of the compact crossover took place in Europe in April 2022.

Since then, Smart has released five different model variants, ranging from the Pro+ with a starting price of €42,490 to the range-topping Brabus priced at €48,990. Now, Smart has announced the arrival of a new entry-level #1 model called the Pro, which significantly reduces the price by €5,000 compared to its closest sibling.

The Pro model maintains the overall design features of the Pro+ variant, such as the panoramic roof, faux leather seating, concealed door handles, and adjustable ambient interior lighting. However, sacrifices were made to achieve a lower price point. The #1 Pro has a smaller lithium-iron-phosphate battery, resulting in a per-charge range of 310 km (192.6 miles) on the WLTP cycle. In contrast, the other five options offer a larger battery of 66-kWh, providing a range of 400 to 440 km.

Fast charging is possible with the #1 Pro, with 30-minute top-ups via 130-kW DC charging. The vehicle is equipped with a 200-kW motor, 19-inch wheels, CyberSparks LED headlights, heated seats for the front, a digital dash, and a touchscreen infotainment display on the center console.

The #1 Pro compact electric SUV will be launched in Germany, France, Spain, Italy, and Switzerland in the coming months. The starting price in Germany is confirmed to be €37,490 (approximately US$39,575). Other European markets can expect the model to be available from early 2024.
