Munro Vehicles, a Scottish startup, has unveiled a new special edition of its MK-1 e-4WD called the Mountain Rescue edition. The development of this edition was a result of extensive discussions with mountain rescue teams and firefighting units from Scotland, England, and Wales. In order to accommodate lifesaving tools and equipment, the rear seats have been removed to create a larger load area suitable for carrying gear over rugged terrains.
Imagining the Munro MK-1 navigating a slippery hillside or maneuvering through dense forests during a rescue mission is not difficult at all. This rugged vehicle was specifically designed for such tasks, born out of struggles faced while operating an ICE vehicle off-road.
The MK-1 distinguishes itself from other electric four-wheelers and AWD cars by utilizing a single axial flux motor that delivers the full power of its 375 peak horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque through a mechanical 4WD system. The vehicle also features a two-speed transfer case and a center differential lock. Furthermore, drivers have the ability to engage the front and rear differential locks to ensure all four wheels have maximum traction.
The Munro MK-1 is equipped with an off-road competition-level coil-over suspension that provides ample ground clearance of 19 inches (48 cm) between the solid axles and the galvanized chassis. This enables the vehicle to comfortably traverse through water depths of up to 31.5 inches (80 cm), ensuring that nothing obstructs its path.

Munro didn’t have to make extensive modifications to transform the MK-1 into a search-and-rescue vehicle; the main adjustment was the creation of additional cargo space. By removing two folding, removable rear seats, the vehicle can now seat three people while offering more room for gear through its swing-out tailgate.
Enhancements to the Mountain Rescue edition include blue exterior lights and bright-yellow striping, which improve visibility. Additionally, yellow springs behind the tires and “mountain rescue” badging on the body contribute to its overall aesthetic.
