The 27-year-old Carusa scored in the second half, alongside Lucy Quinn’s strike and Lily Agg’s late header. Carusa, who plays as a forward for the San Diego Wave, described the occasion in Dublin 4 as “crazy.”
Carusa recalled observing the men’s game at the same stadium before heading to the World Cup. She was amazed by the promotion of their own game, thinking, “wow, we’re going to be playing in this stadium with all these people not too far from now.” The victorious opening of the Nations League in Ireland brought back memories of the World Cup, with a sea of green present at the Aviva.

Before scoring her 70th-minute goal from distance, Carusa had an effort cleared off the line. However, she remained focused and determined to score the second goal for Ireland. Reflecting on the missed opportunity, Carusa said, “It’s about grit and focus. A moment like that can turn a forward’s head down, but it’s about the next play. Forget about it and move on.”
Carusa credited her goal to Katie McCabe’s ball over the top, stating, “You know when you take the shot and just know it’s going in! When Katie puts a ball over the top like that, you don’t miss. That was massive for our confidence.”
When asked about her celebration after the goal, Carusa exclaimed, “It was too electric, you couldn’t help it!” She emphasized the importance of the fans, stating, “In Ireland, the fans are the 12th player on the pitch. I wanted them to be a part of it.”
