Israel has not yet launched a full-scale ground assault, contrary to analysts’ expectations. However, the satellite imagery captured by Planet Labs on Monday morning clearly shows a significant invading force. Multiple groups of armored vehicles can be seen traversing open fields and gathering in urban spaces.

This image provides the most detailed view of the extent of Israel’s invasion into Gaza and the resulting destruction. Israeli vehicles have reached as far south as the Al Karama neighborhood, north of Gaza City. Previously released videos by the Israeli military depicted tanks operating near the border region.

Numerous nearby buildings seem to have suffered extensive damage or complete destruction due to airstrikes. The imagery reveals hundreds of craters resulting from airstrikes and shelling, including within homes and on roads. Apartment blocks have been flattened.

According to the Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza, over 8,000 people, including many children, have been killed since Israel began launching retaliatory airstrikes in response to the Hamas attack on Oct. 7.

The area depicted is one of three directions in which Israeli tanks and vehicles have advanced towards Gaza City, the largest city in Gaza. Lines of armored vehicles have been observed on the main road running north to south of Gaza, as well as in the northeastern corner of the strip, in Beit Hanoun.

However, Israeli forces have refrained from direct combat in Gaza City, opting instead to stay on the city’s outskirts in order to delay the most dangerous clashes and maintain flexibility in military strategy.

In Al Karama, fields and buildings have been razed over the past nine days.
