Unstoppable Stallone Takes on the Tenacious Nun 2: A Thrilling Showdown

Sylvester Stallone and Jason Statham couldn’t rescue Expend4bles from its disappointing debut at the box office. The Lionsgate and Millennium film, also known as Expendables 4, only managed to bring in $8.3 million for its high-budget project. It featured an ensemble cast including Stallone, Statham, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Megan Fox, and Dolph Lundgren. The Associated Press reports that it has been nearly a decade since the franchise released a film, with the previous installment earning $15.8 million in its opening weekend and eventually grossing $214 million worldwide. However, times have clearly changed, as the film barely placed second behind The Nun 2, a horror movie from Warner Bros. that has already grossed over $69 million.

The highly anticipated movie Barbie continues to maintain its momentum from the summer into the fall season. The Greta Gerwig directed film remains in the top five, earning $3.2 million in its most recent week and accumulating a domestic total of more than $630 million after ten weeks. Another summer hit, Oppenheimer, also made the top ten with $1.6 million. Directed by Christopher Nolan, the film has brought in $321 million domestically. Overall, the box office figures continue to be slow due to the ongoing strikes by the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists and Writers Guild of America, resulting in many Hollywood projects being put on hold.

Here are the estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at US and Canadian theaters, according to Comscore. Final domestic figures will be released on Monday.

  1. The Nun II, $8.4 million.
  2. Expend4bles, $8.3 million.
  3. A Haunting in Venice, $6.3 million.
  4. The Equalizer 3, $4.7 million.
  5. Barbie, $3.2 million.
  6. My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3, $3 million.
  7. It Lives Inside, 2.6 million.
  8. Dumb Money, $2.5 million.
  9. Blue Beetle, $1.8 million.
  10. Oppenheimer, $1.6 million.
