Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs continued their dominance over the Denver Broncos on Thursday night, winning their 16th consecutive matchup by a score of 19-8. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce led the way for the Chiefs, with Kelce making a strong case for the team’s MVP. Despite playing with a heavily taped ankle, Kelce caught 9 passes for 124 yards in the victory. Mahomes connected with Kelce on all 7 of his pass attempts in the first half, contributing to the Chiefs’ 13-0 lead at halftime.

This win marks the second time this season that the Chiefs have taken a shutout into the fourth quarter. However, they were unable to maintain the shutout as the Broncos scored their only touchdown with six minutes remaining.

A standout moment from the game came when Kelce reached a top speed of 17.75 mph during a 19-yard catch and run. For a tight end of his size and age, this is an impressive feat.

One concerning trend for Mahomes is his tendency to force throws into coverage when under pressure. He threw his fifth interception of the season in Thursday’s game and is on pace to surpass his career high of 13 interceptions in a season.

Denver Broncos

The Denver Broncos’ loss to the Chiefs is part of a long-standing streak of defeat against their division rivals. The Chiefs have now won 16 consecutive games against the Broncos, showcasing their dominance in this matchup. Despite a strong effort from the Broncos’ defense, the Chiefs were able to capitalize on short fields and secure the victory.

A notable issue for the Broncos is their underutilization of rookie wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr. Mims has been a playmaker for the team, boasting impressive averages and having the longest touchdown reception of the season. However, he has been sidelined for much of the game and has not received many targets from quarterback Russell Wilson.

Wilson’s performance in the game was lackluster, reminiscent of his struggles in the 2022 season. He faced pressure from the Chiefs’ defense, leading to tipped passes and sacks. Wilson needs to regain his composure and make quicker decisions to improve the Broncos’ offense.

A missed opportunity for the Broncos came at the end of the first half when they had a chance to score points. However, Wilson took a costly sack, followed by a unfavorable punt and penalty, allowing the Chiefs to kick a demoralizing 60-yard field goal before halftime.

The Chiefs and Broncos will both be looking to bounce back in their upcoming games. The Chiefs will face the Chargers, while the Broncos will take on the Packers.
