Players are on the verge of uncovering a colossal secret in Diablo 4, as the game’s second season commenced on October 17. Ever since the game’s release in June, players have been tirelessly searching for the legendary Cow Level, which has evolved from an urban legend to a meme and now an actual level in Diablo. Thanks to the dedicated Diablo IV community, we are now closer than ever to discovering the whereabouts of the elusive Cow Level.
Finally, players have succeeded in deciphering the method to acquire three “Items of Great Significance,” believed to be the relics required for crafting a key. This key will grant access to the Forlorn Hovel, a mysterious place rumored to house a portal leading to Diablo 4’s Cow Level.
These thrilling developments were first reported by Wowhead.com, a dedicated Blizzard website that has been closely following the trail of the Diablo 4 Cow Level. According to their investigation, players need to eliminate 666 cows in order to obtain one of the three relics. A member of the Cow Level Secret Finding Discord clarified that players can acquire only one relic per week, meaning it will take several weeks for those venturing on the quest to locate and vanquish the Cow King, unless they collaborate with other players since the items can be traded. It should be noted that Blizzard recently imposed a ban on trading, though it is expected to be lifted in the near future.
A Significant Leap Forward
The Cow Level has been an iconic feature of the Diablo series for decades. After whispers of a secret cow level in the original Diablo circulated in the late ’90s, it finally materialized in Diablo 2 as a hidden endgame level, and it has continued to appear in every subsequent Diablo game. Despite references to the Cow Level within Diablo IV’s code, players have yet to discover its exact incarnation in the game.
Meanwhile, Blizzard is adamant in denying the existence of the Cow Level.
“We aimed to ensure that Diablo 4 maintains the authentic gothic and dark themes we are known for. We have made a conscious effort to keep the game grounded. Therefore, there is no secret level in Diablo 4 akin to those in previous games. However, that doesn’t mean there won’t be one in the future,” stated director Rod Fergusson in an interview with IGN in July.
Although fans have not yet opened the portal leading to the Cow Level, obtaining the necessary items for completing the questline is a significant breakthrough.
