The revolutionary AI platform, ChatGPT, has achieved a significant breakthrough, allowing it to fetch real-time data directly from the internet. OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, made this announcement on Wednesday.
Prior to this development, ChatGPT’s responses were limited to information from a database that only went up until August 2021.
OpenAI stated that ChatGPT can now browse the web to provide users with current and authoritative information, complete with direct links to sources. It is no longer confined to pre-September 2021 data.
This update also gives websites the ability to control ChatGPT’s interaction with their content.
In June, OpenAI initially released this feature to its paying subscribers. However, it was temporarily suspended due to users finding ways to bypass paywalls on internet content.
While the new “Browse with Bing” feature is currently exclusive to paying subscribers of ChatGPT Plus and Enterprise services, OpenAI has announced plans to make it available to all users soon.
OpenAI’s partner, Microsoft, already offers Bing Chat, an integration of GPT-4, the language model behind ChatGPT, with its search engine. Google also has a similar conversational robot called Bard.
With this update, ChatGPT will provide direct sources alongside its responses, marking a departure from relying solely on the publisher’s controlled database.
