Unfortunate Setbacks Continue to Plague the Jedi in Their Unending Struggle

Episode 4 of Ahsoka: A Recap

In the beginning of Episode 4 of Ahsoka, our heroine Ahsoka, played by Rosario Dawson, delivers some harsh truths to Sabine, portrayed by Natasha Liu Bordizzo. The duo realizes that they might be running out of time to locate Ezra and Thrawn. Instead of locating them, they consider the option of eliminating anyone else’s chances of finding them. Sabine is understandably devastated at the prospect of leaving Ezra far away in another part of the galaxy and becomes determined to stop Morgan Elsbeth, Baylan, and their crew.

Ahsoka senses Sabine’s heightened energy and tries to impart a wise lesson: “Sometimes we have to prioritize what is right, regardless of our personal emotions.” However, both Ahsoka and Sabine struggle to fully embrace this wisdom. They continue with their mission despite their conflicting feelings.

Ahsoka, Sabine, and Jedi droid Huyang, voiced by David Tennant, work together to repair their ship after a fierce battle with Morgan’s hyperspace ring leaves them stranded on the planet of Seatos. They plan to confront Baylan, Shin Hati, and Inquisitor Marrok before they are hunted down. However, things take an unexpected turn when Morgan Elsbeth’s HK-87 Assassin Droids arrive, causing Huyang to lose his head, quite literally.

Although Huyang survives the encounter, Ahsoka and Sabine have to start the repairs from scratch after defeating the assassin droids. Before heading out to face Baylan and Shin, Huyang advises the two women that they are stronger together. Despite not taking this advice to heart, Ahsoka appreciates the sentiment. Ahsoka reveals her plan to contact Hera Syndulla, played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead, but to her surprise, Hera is already on her way. She arrives on Seatos with her son Jacen and Chopper, leading a group of former rebel fighters who refuse to let the Empire regain power under their watch.

Back on Seatos, Ahsoka confronts Marrok and Sabine faces off against Shin Hati. Ahsoka defeats Marrok swiftly, but instead of a dramatic revelation, Marrok dissipates into a cloud of dark green smoke. It appears that he may have been a result of Morgan and her Nightsister’s sorcery. Disregarding Huyang’s advice, Ahsoka and Sabine decide to separate and face their opponents individually.

As expected, this decision comes back to haunt them. Ahsoka battles Baylan, who taunts her with mentions of Anakin and his fate. However, Ahsoka remains composed and agile, proving to be a formidable opponent. Just as Morgan’s droids are about to retrieve the coordinates to Thrawn’s location, Ahsoka snatches the map and destroys it with her bare hand.

In the meantime, Sabine defeats Shin with a Mandalorian weapon, causing him to escape through a cloud of smoke. However, before they can reach Baylan and Ahsoka, the fight takes a turn for the worse as Baylan gains the upper hand due to Ahsoka’s burned hand. Seeing Shin return without Sabine, Ahsoka believes she has lost her friend. This anger fuels her battle against Baylan, and she uncharacteristically resorts to Force choking Shin, slamming her into the rocks.

Eventually, Sabine reappears, which disorients Ahsoka and leads to her falling into the Seatos water below. However, fans familiar with Ahsoka’s previous fall on Malachor in Star Wars Rebels know that this is not the end for her. Unaware of this, Sabine becomes susceptible to Baylan’s manipulation in her grief and shock. She returns the map to him in exchange for the chance to save Ezra’s life, defying Ahsoka’s instructions. Hera and her team arrive too late and witness Morgan’s hyperdrive ring in action.

In the final scene of the episode, Ahsoka awakens in the World Between Worlds after her fall, a familiar place for Rebels fans. This time, she is greeted by Anakin Skywalker, played by Hayden Christensen. This unexpected encounter leaves us wondering about Ahsoka’s fate. The heroes are on a losing streak, unable to find Sabine or the way to Ezra and Thrawn. Meanwhile, Ahsoka exists on a different plane of reality.
