Unforgettable Wedding Day: Bear Crashes Celebration, Devours Desserts, Leaves Bride and Groom in Shock

  • Cailyn MacRossie-Martinez and her husband, Brandon Martinez, dedicated months to meticulously plan their dream wedding.
  • However, their perfect vision was disrupted by an unexpected downpour and an intruding bear that demolished their dessert bar.
  • Nevertheless, the couple shared with Insider that these extraordinary experiences only made their special day even more memorable.

This personal essay is based on a conversation with Cailyn MacRossie-Martinez, a 24-year-old who married Brandon Martinez in Boulder, Colorado on July 31, 2023, after eight months of meticulous planning. The following has been edited for brevity and clarity.

The night before our wedding, we spontaneously decided to choreograph our first dance. We found ourselves in the gym, watching YouTube videos to learn dance moves. At the time, I thought we were crazy for attempting it.

However, surprisingly, it ended up being the only thing that went according to plan.

I Received a Flood Warning

I had a vision for how certain moments of the wedding would unfold. One of the things I always pictured was walking down the aisle and how that would feel.

People often say that when you walk down the aisle, the only thing you see is your partner and nothing else. For me, that was absolutely true, even though there was a looming dark cloud above us.

I thought to myself, “I don’t care.” I was determined to walk down that aisle and marry Brandon because that was my purpose that day.

As we were getting ready, I received a flood warning on my phone. My bridesmaids advised me not to check the weather, assuring me that rain on a wedding day brings good luck.

My Hair was Completely Ruined

We anticipated a passing sprinkle of rain. In Colorado, it usually pours for a few minutes and then the clouds disperse.

While waiting for that to happen, we paused the ceremony. We stood there for a full five minutes, getting drenched as we hoped for the rain to subside. Unfortunately, it never did, so we decided to proceed with the ceremony.

We had to amplify the microphones because the sound of rain pounding on the umbrellas was deafening, making it impossible for anyone to hear what we were saying. I was also concerned about our handwritten vows getting ruined by the rain.

By that point, my hair was a complete mess. I felt a tinge of sadness since we had spent a significant amount of money on styling it for the wedding. However, it turned out that the ruined hair didn’t matter, as we ended up capturing incredibly beautiful moments and photos.

‘Did You Know There’s a Bear Here?’

After cutting the cake and performing our first dance, I urged everyone to join us on the dance floor, not suspecting anything about the dessert.

While Brandon was heading to the bar to grab a drink, my brother rushed up to him and exclaimed, “Did you know there’s a bear here?”

Next thing we knew, he showed us a picture of an actual bear on his phone. Word spread among the guests, and chaos ensued.

The bear found its way onto the dessert table, completely ransacking it. My brother and his best friend captured the incident on film. Eventually, security arrived and chased off the bear.
