In a surprising turn of events, an uninvited guest paid a visit to a residence in Sierra Madre early Wednesday morning. This unexpected occurrence has prompted authorities to issue warnings to the local community.
According to reports, a bear managed to enter a home on South Hermosa Avenue around 2 a.m. Alarmed by their suspicion of a bear inside their home, the homeowners swiftly dialed 911, leading to the prompt dispatch of officers from the Sierra Madre Police Department.
“While strolling through my courtyard, I happened to glance towards the left where my side door is, only to find it wide open,” recounted homeowner Chelsea Mapanda in an interview with KTLA.
She also noted that she spotted through a window that the refrigerator door had been left ajar and food was strewn across the floor.
“Immediately, I knew that a bear had wandered into my house because we had been previously alerted about a bear sighting in the area,” Mapanda explained to KTLA.
Reportedly, the bear autonomously vacated the premises around 8 a.m. During their investigation, utilizing drones, the police discovered paw prints leading up to one of the back doors of the house, as reported by Fox 11. Authorities believe that the bear likely returned to the nearby forested area.
Upon their arrival, the police officers detected grunting noises emanating from within the home and consequently secured the vicinity. Nearby residents were advised to steer clear of the South Hermosa and Ramona Avenue area.
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife collaborated with the police to safely extract the bear from the dwelling.
