Arsham, widely recognized for his ability to create artworks that exude an aged aesthetic, has once again stunned spectators. His latest project involves transforming iconic Hot Wheels cars into fossilized remnants, as if they were recently unearthed at an ancient burial site in Mesopotamia. Imagine taking a stroll through the stunning Canadian Badlands in Alberta and stumbling upon the fossilized remains of a vintage vehicle. Although it may take a few generations for this dream to become a reality, Arsham has made it possible for toy car enthusiasts to own a vehicle that appears to have been lost to time and rediscovered just moments ago.

For his collaboration with Mattel Creations, Arsham chose to recreate two legendary models – the Rodger Dodger 1973 Dodge Charger SE with a blown V8 protruding from the hood, and the Porsche 911 Turbo (930). Both cars feature a weathered, bone-white exterior, with sections missing as if they were eroded by the passage of time and the forces of nature rather than intentionally carved out by the artist’s hand.

To achieve the desired bone-white finish, Mattel Creations utilized a composite material called Silkstone, previously used in the creation of premium Barbie Dolls to achieve a lifelike porcelain skin effect.

The first two models from the “Laps” collection are presented in a vintage-inspired Hot Wheels Super Rally Case, providing a stunning display for the entire 8-car collection. The unveiling of Arsham’s first two Hot Wheels creations will take place in New York City later this month, with the remaining six models set to be released over the next few years.

“Mattel Creations has truly embraced my artistic vision, exploring innovative materials and techniques,” Arsham stated in a press release. “The use of Silkstone on a Hot Wheels model represents a groundbreaking moment for both of us, and I’m thrilled to collaborate on this historic project.”

The collection also includes keychains, stickers, and a variety of special prints. Don’t miss your chance to own a piece of automotive history with this remarkable collaboration. Visit Mattel Creations starting October 27 to discover the entire collection.
