New film breakdown exposes interesting habits about Tyson Bagent’s game originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago
Tyson Bagent secured his second career win by helping the Bears achieve a 3-7 record this season after defeating the Panthers on Thursday night.
He completed 20-of-33 passes from under center, amassing 162 yards while also gaining 12 yards through rushing. Nonetheless, his ability to avoid critical errors in this game was crucial, especially after the Bears’ defeat against the Saints last Sunday.
J.T. O’Sullivan, former NFL quarterback and creator of “The QB School” YouTube channel, thoroughly analyzed Bagent’s performance in the game.
O’Sullivan pointed out several aspects of Bagent’s game, particularly his lack of patience in the pocket and his inconsistent footwork. One recurring issue was Bagent’s tendency to pop too high at the end of his throws.
Furthermore, O’Sullivan discussed the missed opportunity when Bagent failed to throw to Tyler Scott, who was wide open down the middle of the field. O’Sullivan also observed that Bagent sometimes predetermines his target before the play, rather than adapting in real-time.
On a positive note, O’Sullivan highlighted Cole Kmet’s exceptional chip blocks during the game.
In summary, O’Sullivan acknowledged the positives in Bagent’s game but emphasized that he is still far from being a starting quarterback. Despite his impressive story as a Division II, undrafted player, the expectation is that Justin Fields will reclaim the starting role once he is ready to return.
