Regarding the signpost snatcher (‘Phantom post snatcher’ on Snowdonia Slate Trail wrongfoots ramblers, 22 August), I once witnessed a remarkable lampstand made from a wooden waymarker in the home of an avid hiker. This suggests that there could be a potential market for such unique creations.

The ink recipe Phil Gates obtained for producing ink from inkcap mushrooms (Country diary, 16 August) is a fascinating example of the diverse applications of fungi. It’s not just limited to ink, as ongoing research is exploring the potential to create textiles, paper, insulation, and numerous other materials from various mushroom species. Perhaps a mycological version of the Guardian isn’t too far-fetched.
