However, a recent study has revealed that the search giant’s artificial intelligence chatbot, Bard, avoids answering critical questions about Russian President Vladimir Putin. Regardless of whether the questions are offensive or not, Bard refuses to answer 90 percent of queries. One of the researchers involved in the study believes that Google might be under pressure from the Kremlin to censor any content that is critical of the Russian regime. The researchers tested Bard, as well as ChatGPT from OpenAI and Microsoft’s Bing Chat, by asking them a series of questions about Putin. They found that Bard did not answer around 30 to 40 percent of queries about Putin, as well as a significant portion of queries about other political figures. The study also revealed that Bard is more likely to share fake information in Russian and Ukrainian compared to other language models. It is suggested that Google’s poor performance in this area may be due to the company’s substantial usage in Russia. Google has faced recent controversies, including gender pay discrimination lawsuits and allegations of racial pay disparities among its employees.
