Skoda’s Impressive Growth: A Comparative Analysis

In August 2023, Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited, the Indian subsidiary of the renowned German automotive manufacturing giant Volkswagen Group, achieved significant sales milestones. Skoda registered sales of approximately 4,400 cars, while Volkswagen sold about 4,100 cars, resulting in a combined total of around 8,500 cars. These numbers reflect the successful performance of both brands in the Indian market.

Skoda’s Sales Performance in August 2023:

Skoda witnessed a modest year-on-year (YoY) growth of 2.01% compared to the same period in the previous year. The brand sold a total of 4,307 units, with two models, the Kushaq compact SUV and the Slavia mid-sized sedan, leading the sales charts. The Kushaq, with 2,409 units sold, showcased an impressive YoY growth of 28.41%, while the Slavia recorded 1,657 units sold, despite a slight decline of 14.63% compared to August 2022. In addition, the Kodiaq, Skoda’s premium SUV, contributed significantly to the brand’s success with 241 units sold, representing a notable YoY growth of 59.60%. On the other hand, the Superb and Octavia models have been discontinued, resulting in zero sales for both.

Volkswagen, a brand under the Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited umbrella, showcased robust sales performance in August 2023. The brand recorded a total sales figure of 4,174 units, achieving an impressive YoY growth of 102.92%. The Virtus model emerged as the top performer for Volkswagen, with 2,140 units sold and a remarkable YoY growth of 145.13%. The Taigun, Volkswagen’s SUV offering, recorded 1,943 units sold, showcasing a significant YoY growth of 90.68%. However, the Tiguan witnessed a decline in sales, with only 91 units sold and a YoY decline of 41.29%.

Comparing Month-on-Month (MoM) Performance:

In addition to the year-on-year growth, a month-on-month (MoM) comparison reveals the consistent momentum maintained by Skoda and Volkswagen from July 2023. Skoda witnessed a 2.38% increase in sales, while Volkswagen reported a 9.44% MoM growth in August 2023. These figures highlight the commitment of both brands to deliver high-quality vehicles that cater to the diverse preferences of Indian consumers in an evolving automotive industry.
