Unclear Reopening Date for Bar After Shooting Incident in Cook’s Corner as Band Members Recover

Two members of the band performing at Cook’s Corner bar in Trabuco Canyon have been discharged from the hospital and are now recovering at home. Dave Stretch and Ed Means, members of the M Street band, expressed their gratitude on Instagram for the overwhelming support they received from friends, including flowers, food, cards, and well wishes.

A shooting occurred at Cook’s Corner on Wednesday evening, during which John Snowling, a retired police officer, entered the bar and shot his estranged wife, Marie, as well as another woman named Tonya Clark. Clark tragically died while Marie survived with a gunshot wound to the jaw. The shooter was later killed by law enforcement, and several others were injured.

Glen Sprowl Jr. and John Leehey were among those killed in the shooting. Marie Snowling and another unidentified man remain in critical condition. The bar’s general manager, Rhonda Palmeri, expressed her condolences on Facebook and mentioned the possibility of a private gathering for those affected by the tragedy. The reopening of the bar is still uncertain.

A prayer gathering was held at Saddleback Church to mourn the victims, with individuals livestreaming their support. James O’Malley, who was present during the shooting, recounted the traumatic experience of witnessing his friend, John Leehey, fall to the ground after being shot in the back.

Orange County Sheriff Don Barnes provided details about the events leading up to the shootout, explaining that Snowling had traveled from Ohio to Southern California specifically to confront his estranged wife at Cook’s Corner. Barnes praised the heroic actions of the deputies who engaged the shooter, emphasizing that their use of force was justified.

Cook’s Corner, known as a biker bar, is a beloved gathering place for families and the community. The restaurant has a rich history dating back to the late 1800s and prides itself on its Wednesday night spaghetti dinner special. Despite the tragic incident, local leaders affirm that the essence of Cook’s Corner and the surrounding area remains intact.
