No tickets were sold with all six numbers in the latest drawing of the multi-state Powerball lottery, leading to an estimated jackpot of $1.2 billion for Wednesday’s drawing. This jackpot is the seventh-largest in U.S. history.
However, there were four tickets sold with five numbers, but none of them had the Powerball number. The Multi-State Lottery Association, which runs the game, confirmed this information.
Interestingly, two tickets, one each sold in New York and South Carolina, are worth $2 million. This is because the players utilized the Power Play option, giving them a higher prize for having five numbers without the Powerball number. These players took advantage of the option by paying an additional $1 per play.
In addition, one ticket each sold in Delaware and Michigan is worth $1 million.
The numbers drawn in the latest drawing were 12, 26, 27, 43, 47, and the Powerball number was 5. The estimated jackpot for this drawing was $1.066 billion, making it the ninth-largest in U.S. history and the fourth-largest in the game’s history since it began in 1992.
Although this jackpot is impressive, there have been five Mega Millions drawings with even larger jackpots.
This drawing marked the 30th consecutive drawing without a grand prize winner. The last time a ticket with all six numbers was sold was on July 19, when a ticket worth $1.08 billion was sold at a mini-market in downtown Los Angeles. This jackpot was the seventh-largest in U.S. history.
According to the Multi-State Lottery Association, the odds of matching all five numbers and the Powerball number are 1 in 292.2 million. The overall chance of winning any prize in the Powerball game is 1 in 24.9.
