Unbelievable Twist: Armed Man Apprehended at State Capitol Comes Back Within Hours!

In a bizarre incident, a man illegally entered the Wisconsin Capitol with a handgun and demanded to see Gov. Tony Evers. Later that night, after posting bail, he returned with an assault rifle, according to a spokesperson for the state. It was reported that the man, who was shirtless and had a holstered handgun, approached the governor’s office on the first floor of the Capitol around 2pm on Wednesday. Unfortunately, the governor was not present in the building at that time.

A Capitol police officer sits at a desk outside a suite of rooms that includes the governor’s office, conference room, and offices for the attorney general. The man was apprehended for openly carrying a firearm, which is against the law in the Capitol, as confirmed by Tatyana Warrick, spokesperson for the state’s Department of Administration. However, concealed weapons are allowed in the Capitol if the person has a valid permit. The arrested man did not have a concealed carry permit, resulting in his apprehension. After being booked into the Dane County Jail, he was released on bail. Surprisingly, he returned to the Capitol building shortly before 9pm, this time brandishing an assault-style rifle. Warrick stated that the building is closed to the public after 6pm and he was taken into custody once again as he demanded to see the governor.

Warrick revealed that the man was taken into protective custody for a psychiatric evaluation due to the concerning statements he made. This incident is just one in a series of violent threats against public officials, as reported by the Washington Post. Gov. Evers, a Democrat, was even on a hit list that belonged to a gunman who was suspected of fatally shooting a retired county judge at his Wisconsin home in 2022. Other public officials on the same list included Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and US Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. (Read more Wisconsin stories.)
