Unbelievable Transformation: McLaren Artura Turns Unrecognizable After Dramatic Fire During Test Drive

Pay homage to the fallen McLaren Artura. Just a few days back in the UK, there were witnesses who literally poured one out for this specific Artura, although their efforts were in vain as the hybrid supercar met its fiery demise. It burned to a crisp, leaving only a trace of its lower front fascia intact. Well, partially intact.

So, what exactly went down here? Besides the obvious fact that it caught fire, it remains a burning question awaiting an answer. We can inform you that the blaze occurred on October 16, not far from a McLaren dealership in Leeds where the car was supposedly on a test drive, according to a report by The Sun UK. Let’s assume the potential buyer decided to pass on this particular purchase. Allegedly, the fire erupted without warning, but fortunately, both occupants managed to escape unharmed.

McLaren Fire

It took local firefighters approximately 30 minutes to extinguish the fire, but the specific cause is still unknown. Considering the Artura’s rarity and the fact that it was out on a test drive from a dealership, we reached out to McLaren to inquire about any ongoing investigations or information regarding the incident’s origin. We haven’t received any response on that front yet, but rest assured, we’ll provide an update if any new details surface.

Although the cause of this fire remains a mystery, it’s important to note that the Artura had been recalled in the US due to a potential fire risk in late 2022. Documents from the automaker revealed two instances of fuel leaks in track-driven cars that utilized a specific type of nut on the fuel injection system. Initially, a new tightening procedure was implemented as a fix and applied to cars prior to customer deliveries. However, a second fuel leak occurred even after implementing this procedure, prompting McLaren to recall 164 vehicles in the US.

Equipped with a 671-horsepower powertrain that combines a twin-turbocharged V6 engine with a single electric motor, the Artura represents McLaren’s production-series hybrid that follows in the footsteps of the legendary P1 hypercar. It made its debut in 2021, although various issues compelled McLaren to delay production in the subsequent months.
