Unbelievable Encounter: Manhattan Beach Jewelry Store Employee Fights Back against Smash-and-Grab Thieves

Detectives are currently investigating a robbery that took place at a Manhattan Beach jewelry store. The incident occurred when five thieves entered the store, smashing showcases and stealing merchandise. However, their plans were thwarted when an employee fired a shot at them, prompting their quick escape.

The robbery was reported on Saturday at Prestige Jewelers located at 3001 N. Sepulveda Blvd., according to the Manhattan Beach Police Department.

During the robbery, the thieves were dressed in hoodies and armed with hammers. They managed to take some jewelry before the employee fired a shot in their direction, causing them to flee the store. They quickly got into waiting vehicles and were last seen heading south on Sepulveda.

Fortunately, no employees were injured during the incident, although it is unclear if any of the suspects sustained injuries.

Responding to the scene, officers from the Gardena and El Segundo police departments assisted the Manhattan Beach police in their investigation.

Manhattan Beach Mayor Richard Montgomery expressed gratitude for the support from the Gardena and El Segundo police departments, emphasizing the city’s commitment to ensuring the safety of its residents even in the midst of grieving the loss of Officer Chad Swanson, who tragically passed away in a car accident.

The robbery occurred just three days after the untimely death of Manhattan Beach Police Officer Chad Swanson in a crash on the San Diego (405) Freeway while on his way to work.

Authorities are urging anyone who witnessed the robbery, captured video or photographs, or has any information about the suspects to come forward. They can contact Detective Hartnell at 310-802-5127 or the MBPD Tip Line at 310-802-5171.
