The Cavaliers were outplayed, gaining only 201 yards compared to Tennessee’s 499, and allowing their opponent to make 29 first downs.
Virginia showed some improvement in their home opener against local rival James Madison.
Despite trailing 14-0 early on as 6.5-point underdogs, the Cavaliers managed to take a 35-24 lead in the fourth quarter.
Unfortunately, JMU scored the final 12 points, winning 36-35. However, Virginia did cover the spread.
