UK’s Inspiring Economic Recovery Defies Doubters, Reveals Hunt

A Treasury minister refrained from ruling out additional tax increases prior to the next general election, despite a recent report suggesting that the tax burden in the current parliament is set to rise more than any other period since the Second World War.

When asked this morning if he could ensure that there would be no further tax hikes by the current Government, Andrew Griffith, the Economic Secretary to the Treasury, was unable to provide a definitive answer.

Griffith stated during an interview on Times Radio, “It would be inappropriate for any responsible Treasury minister to make that commitment.”

He continued, “What I can highlight is the strong track record of Conservative governments. As a party, we believe in building a solid foundation for a strong economy and keeping inflation in check. This has been the Prime Minister’s top priority.

“We are on the right path to achieve this due to the difficult choices we have made. In essence, Conservatives believe in allowing individuals to keep a larger share of their own income. However, I regret that I cannot provide specific commitments at this time outside of a fiscal event.

“Nevertheless, the need for potential tax increases arises from the unexpected influx of funds resulting from the global pandemic.”
