Combat operations are ongoing on the left bank of the Dnipro River in Kherson Oblast, as Ukrainian forces counter Russian artillery attacks with their own fire, announced Natalia Humeniuk, head of the coordination press center of the Southern Defense Forces of Ukraine, during a national television appearance on October 23.
In response to a question about military activities in Kherson Oblast, particularly the situation on the left bank of the Dnipro River, where Ukrainian fighters were reported to have gained a foothold according to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), Humeniuk stated, “We cannot disclose the details of ongoing combat operations.”
She further explained, “We are continuously pushing back the enemy through counter-battery actions. The enemy forces have been stationed in the area for a prolonged period and have the capability to maneuver and hide among civilians. Thus, the fighting is expected to continue.”

According to Ukrainian military reports, the Russians launched over 40 guided air bombs on the right bank within the past day alone. In response, the Ukrainian Armed Forces carried out precise strikes on enemy assets, including a field ammunition depot, a drone control point, an observation post, seven units of armored vehicles, and an equal number of large-caliber guns.
Addressing the ISW report on the alleged landing of Ukrainian fighters in Russian-occupied left bank Kherson Oblast, Humeniuk stated that it was premature to make definitive claims at this stage, as these were conclusions presented by analysts.
According to the assessment from October 18 by ISW, select units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces successfully crossed the Dnipro River on October 17-18 and gained a foothold in the occupied part of Kherson Oblast near Oleshkivska. If the marines can maintain their position, this initial landing operation could potentially develop into a new active front, as stated by ISW analysts.
Based on information from Russian media and ISW’s “war correspondents,” the report stated that Ukrainian military personnel have taken up positions in the village of Krynky, advanced nearly two kilometers south, and are currently “fighting for full control” of the settlement.
