Ukraine is rapidly increasing the production of naval drones. They are developing new drone models equipped with unexpected features to make Russian ships “uncomfortable” in the Black Sea, according to Digital Transformation Minister Mykhailo Fedorov during a recent interview with Ukrainian TV broadcasters.

“We are developing new drone models with unique features,” said Fedorov. “I believe this will considerably unsettle Russian ships in the Black Sea. Our specific goal is to ramp up production, leading to the emergence of more manufacturers, competition, and innovative functionalities.”
“We are tirelessly working to usher in a new technological era of warfare, persisting in dismantling the enemy,” he added. Fedorov also revealed that the country is actively creating combat UAVs. Since June, Ukrainian drones have obliterated 627 enemy tanks, 869 armored vehicles, and over 700 artillery units.

Ukraine’s use of naval drones has been to attack the Russian Black Sea Fleet. Two Russian small landing ships were critically damaged in occupied Crimea due to drone attacks. Since February 2022, Ukraine has sunk or damaged 25 Russian vessels.

The experimental surface drone, Sea Baby, from Ukraine was notably deployed to attack the Crimean Bridge linking the occupied peninsula with Russia. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the establishment of a Ukrainian fleet of naval drones and a fundraiser for it in November 2022.
