Dance in Albany, presented by The Egg and the University at Albany, is back for its eighth season this fall with an impressive lineup of contemporary dance performances and genre-blending interdisciplinary presentations.
The aim of this collaborative series is to bring renowned choreographers and dance companies from a diverse range of genres to Albany. This season, there will be nine performances held at both UAlbany’s uptown campus and The Egg.
Some highlights from the 2023-24 series include the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, who will kick off the season with a mixed repertory program that explores and celebrates the impact of African-American culture. The Bill T. Jones/Artie Zane Company will combine social commentary with modern dance, while Passion Fruit Company will bring hip-hop and street club styles to the stage. NoGravity Theatre will offer a multidisciplinary performance infused with Renaissance and Baroque influences, and the Mark Morris Dance Group will showcase new works and classics. And of course, tap legend Savion Glover will bring his signature improvisational skills and energy to the stage.
One exciting collaboration this season is between the Ellen Sinopoli Dance Company, The Egg’s resident company, and Capital Trio, UAlbany Performing Arts Center’s resident music ensemble. This special performance, titled “As Seen from Above,” set to music selections from William Matthews’ A Book of Hours, will be held on January 27, 2024 at UAlbany’s Performing Arts Center and admission is free.
Tickets for individual performances and season subscriptions are now available. A full series subscription is priced at $110, with discounts of 25% and 10% for five- and three-show packages respectively. Individual ticket prices range from $10 to $36 depending on the performance. Subscriptions can only be purchased through The Egg in person at the Empire State Plaza or by phone at 518-473-1845, while individual tickets are available through the respective performance venues.
