Two years later: Reflecting on the dire consequences of Biden’s Afghanistan withdrawal

The American withdrawal from Afghanistan, overseen by the Biden administration two years ago, was an unprecedented disaster. Thirteen service members lost their lives, and thousands of American citizens, as well as tens of thousands of allies, were left behind. This chaotic withdrawal also resulted in the abandonment of tens of millions of women and girls to lives of sexual slavery, starvation, and violence.

Despite these devastating consequences, the Biden administration presents the withdrawal as an “extraordinary success.”

This begs the question: Who exactly considers this withdrawal a success? Certainly not the brave service members who devoted their blood, sweat, and years of their lives to witness the Taliban, their long-time enemies, gain control in such a chaotic manner.

Two years ago, 13 courageous service members lost their lives during the so-called “extraordinary success” Biden claims the withdrawal to be. The nation collectively held its breath as Biden checked his watch while the flag-draped coffins of our fallen heroes were unloaded from the plane. Was their ultimate sacrifice nothing more than an inconvenience to his schedule?

MOM OF US SERVICE MEMBER KILLED IN AFGHANISTAN WITHDRAWAL SLAMS BIDEN’S FOREIGN POLICY: ‘WEAKER NOW THAN EVER’

After two years, the families of these brave service members finally spoke out. They revealed the “disrespect” shown to their fallen loved ones by their leaders, including the task of cleaning bathrooms and removing anti-Taliban graffiti before abandoning Americans, allies, innocent civilians, and a strategically important military stronghold.

During our rescue efforts to save the thousands left behind, our team witnessed these bizarre and disgraceful priorities. In the midst of death and chaos, our leaders were more concerned about leaving clean bathrooms for the Taliban.

Gold Star mother Kelly Barnett shared how she was lied to about her son’s death and told to keep quiet. The Biden administration seemed to prioritize their insistence that the withdrawal was an “extraordinary success” over inconvenient truths.

Shockingly, Biden himself later declared that he “makes no apologies” for the disastrous consequences that resulted in the loss of American lives.

But was this withdrawal truly an “extraordinary success” for the thousands of Americans abandoned in the chaos, left to face the violent control of the Taliban? Initially, Secretary of State Antony Blinken claimed only about 100 Americans were left behind, but subsequent reports revealed a number almost a hundred times greater.

Surprisingly, Blinken recently bragged about “bringing back virtually all the American citizens who wanted to depart.” It appears that the thousands left behind do not factor into their assessment of the withdrawal’s success.

DISASTROUS AFGHANISTAN WITHDRAWAL POINTS TO A WAY FORWARD FOR US MILITARY

The millions of girls and young women abandoned to the Taliban, denied education, and subjected to sexual slavery certainly do not view the withdrawal as an “extraordinary success.” Let’s not forget the millions more Afghans who now suffer from starvation due to the Taliban’s violent and radical authoritarian control.

Clearly, this withdrawal was not a success for the people we sought to help.

As someone who has worked with veterans and served in the military myself, I understand the immense mental and emotional toll this has taken on them. After sacrificing so much for our nation and a struggling Afghanistan, brave service members watched in despair as their leaders, including the commander in chief, made catastrophic decisions resulting in chaos, loss of life, and an ongoing humanitarian crisis.

Only two years after this deadly catastrophe, Biden had the audacity to challenge anyone to “name a single objective we’ve failed on” and still considers the withdrawal an “extraordinary success.”

We didn’t need hindsight to know how devastating the surrender of Afghanistan would be. It’s been two years, and the only way this withdrawal can be considered an “extraordinary success” is as a carefully crafted political talking point for a desperate politician in need of a win.

Aside from the fact that Biden can proudly declare that we are no longer in Afghanistan, the entire debacle remains one of the most tragic and avoidable catastrophes witnessed by our generation.

Equally tragic is the apparent lack of concern from our government, whose primary focus seems to be carefully crafted political talking points. America and the world deserve better.

On this anniversary of the Afghanistan withdrawal, I urge Americans to see through the political narratives and face the harsh reality of the tragedy that could have been prevented during those chaotic and deadly days. Let us remember the millions who suffered horrific atrocities and the immense sacrifices made by our service members who were willing to lay down their lives for freedom and safety.

May we never forget.
