Twitter Experiences Widespread Outage Amidst Increased User Reports

Thousands of users encountered difficulties accessing Twitter on Saturday, highlighting the most recent widespread outage since the acquisition of the platform by Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, in late 2020.

Many individuals who attempted to access or share content through Twitter’s website or mobile application received error messages, such as “Rate limit exceeded” or “Cannot retrieve tweets.” By 11 a.m. ET, over 7,300 people had reported issues to Downdetector, a website that tracks online service disruptions.

In response to CNBC’s inquiry, Twitter provided their customary response in the form of a poop emoji.

This outage is not the first instance of technical difficulties faced by Twitter in recent months. In February, users were unable to post for approximately 90 minutes after reaching the daily tweet limit. In March, users experienced temporary difficulties in loading images or clicking on links.

Moreover, these outages coincided with reports of a data center closure and significant layoffs at Twitter, which Musk defended as necessary for the company’s financial stability.

The resolution time for Saturday’s outage remains uncertain.

CORRECTION: This article has been updated to clarify that Elon Musk is not the CEO of Twitter, but rather the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX.
