Twitch Switch App Support to be Discontinued in Early 2023 – Important Update!

Twitch Switch

Twitch has announced that it will be discontinuing support for the Nintendo Switch Twitch app on January 31, 2024.

Starting from November 6, 2023 (next week), new users will no longer be able to download the Twitch app from Nintendo’s Switch eShop. Existing users will also lose access early next year.

In response to the app removal, Twitch provided the following statement to The Verge:

“We recently made the difficult decision to remove the Twitch app from the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo remains a valued partner and we appreciate all of the support the Switch community has provided to Twitch and our streamers.”

The Twitch App was initially launched on the Switch eShop in November 2021, allowing users to watch livestream gaming videos, esports, and IRL broadcasts, similar to the website and phone app. However, it received some complaints as well.

As reported by Nintendo Life:

“It doesn’t look like you can use chat, or view chat, unless you’re not actually watching the stream, and you can’t stream games from the Switch, either. While watching a stream, the only options are to pause, hide the UI, or close the stream.”

If you’re interested in experiencing the Twitch app on the Switch before it’s removed, there’s still time to check it out. The Twitch website provides detailed instructions for the free download.
